Not everyone finds their passion for what they want to do in life as a teenager. However, 15-year-old Elvis Rolando Marcillo Pinsag has already discovered his love of working in restaurants. In the following, Elvis explains how a scholarship from The Tandana Foundation is helping him continue his high school studies and work towards his dream of one day being a chef.

No todos encuentran su pasión por lo que quieren hacer en la vida de adolescentes. Sin embargo, Elvis Rolando Marcillo Pinsag, de 15 años, ya descubrió su amor por trabajar en restaurantes. A continuación, Elvis explica cómo la beca de la Fundación Tandana lo está ayudando a continuar sus estudios de secundaria y seguir hacia el sueño de ser un día chef.
Mi nombre es Elvis Rolando Marcillo Pinsag. Tengo 15 años, y vivo en la comunidad de Panecillo con mi mamá y un hermano mayor. Soy el sexto y el último hijo de la familia que está estudiando; mis otros hermanos/as ya no viven con nosotros porque tienen su hogar. Mi mamá es ama de casa, no trabaja en ningún lugar. Ella ha alcanzado el estudio de primaria, por eso puede comprender mis notas del colegio y siempre está pendiente para que siga adelante y mejorando cada vez mis calificaciones y pueda sobresalir en mí vida. Mi padre falleció hace algunos años y por eso para ayudar a sostenernos y para ganarme un poco de dinero, trabajo en un restaurante como ayudante de cocina.
Estoy estudiando en la Unidad Educativa Jacinto Collahuaso. Antes de conocer a Tandana, ha sido más difícil para comprar mi lista de útiles. Tampoco tenía lo necesario para los pasajes del bus, y lo dejaba el uniforme para comprar más tarde. Mi mamá no podía ayudarme con todos mis gastos; el dinero que consigue solo cubre para la alimentación diaria. Gracias a que conocí a la Fundación Tandana, yo pude aplicar para una beca en esta organización y continuar con mis estudios. Hoy en día ya no me esfuerzo tanto en poder comprar lo necesario, sino me pongo mi energía en todas mis tareas y lecciones para alcanzar un bachillerato.
Me gustaría ser buen estudiante y terminar el colegio. El estudio me ayudará a alcanzar mis sueños, ya que me permitirá trabajar y seguir estudiando hasta alcanzar mi meta. Si pudiera seguir estudiando, me gustaría ser Chef para trabajar en restaurantes. Me gusta preparar la alimentación a mucha gente y dar este servicio con mucho entusiasmo.

My name is Elvis Rolando Marcillo Pinsag. I am 15 years old, and I live in the community of Panecillo with my mom and an older brother. I am the sixth and last son in the family who is going to school. My other siblings don’t live with us anymore because they have their own homes. My mom is a homemaker; she doesn’t work anywhere else. She was able to study in primary school, and thanks to that she can understand my grade cards from high school, and she is always paying attention to how I am doing and encouraging me to keep going forward and improving my grades to be able to rise above in life. My father died several years ago, and because of that, I work in a restaurant as an assistant in the kitchen to be able to earn some money and help support us.
I am studying at the Jacinto Collahuazo School. Before I learned about Tandana, it was more difficult to buy my school supplies. I also didn’t have the money I needed for bus fare, and I put off buying my uniform. My mom couldn’t help me with all the expenses. The money she earns only covers our daily food. Thanks to learning about Tandana, I was able to apply for a scholarship from this organization and continue my studies. Today, I don’t have to struggle so much to buy what is necessary for school; instead I put my energy into my homework and into learning so that I can earn my diploma.
I want to be a good student and finish high school. My studies will help me reach my dreams, as they will allow me to work and then keep studying until I reach my goal. If I can keep studying, I would like to be a chef to work in restaurants. I like to prepare food for many people and provide this service with a lot of enthusiasm.

Cependant, Elvis Rolando Marcillo Pinsag, âgé de 15 ans, a déjà découvert son amour du travail dans les restaurants. Dans la suite, Elvis explique comment une bourse de la Fondation Tandana l’aide à poursuivre ses études au lycée continuer vers le rêve de devenir un jour cuisinier.
Je m’appelle Elvis Rolando Marcillo Pinsag. J’ai 15 ans et j’habite dans la communauté de Panecillo avec ma mère et mon frère. Je suis le sixième et dernier fils de la famille qui étudie. Mes autres frères et sœurs n’habitent plus avec nous car ils ont leur propre maison. Ma mère est menagere; elle ne travaille nulle part ailleurs. Elle a pu étudier à l’école primaire et grâce à cela, elle peut comprendre mes notes de lycée. Elle est toujours attentive à ce que je fais et m’encourage à continuer d’avancer et à améliorer mes notes pour pouvoir augmenter ci-dessus dans la vie. Mon père est décédé il y a plusieurs années et, à cause de cela, je travaille dans un restaurant en tant qu’assistant de cuisine pour pouvoir gagner de l’argent et nous aider à nous soutenir.
J’étudie à l’école Jacinto Collahuazo. Avant que j’aie entendu parler de Tandana, il était difficile d’acheter mes fournitures scolaires. Je n’avais pas non plus l’argent dont j’avais besoin pour payer le billet de bus et j’ai retardé l’achat de mon uniforme. Ma mère ne pouvait pas m’aider avec toutes les dépenses. L’argent qu’elle gagne ne couvre que notre nourriture quotidienne. Grâce à Tandana, j’ai pu demander une bourse à cette organisation et poursuivre mes études. Aujourd’hui, je n’ai plus tant à lutter pour acheter ce qui est nécessaire à l’école; au lieu de cela, je mets mon énergie dans mes devoirs et dans mon apprentissage pour pouvoir obtenir mon diplôme.
Je veux être un bon élève et finir le lycée. Mes études me permettront d’atteindre mes rêves, car elles me rendront possible de travailler puis de poursuivre mes études jusqu’à ce que j’atteigne mon objectif. Si je peux continuer à étudier, je voudrais être un chef pour travailler dans les restaurants. J’aime préparer de la nourriture pour beaucoup de gens et fournir ce service avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme.
