Not every organization or individual who promises to help a group of people delivers on that promise. The Tandana Foundation, however, has earned the reputation that the organization can be trusted after continually following through on the projects it has collaborated on. In the following, Sara Tembine describes how she and other women in her village were deceived, and how her knowledge of Tandana’s work led her to argue in favor of her village partnering with Tandana on several projects.

Un partenaire de confiance au Mali

Ce ne sont pas toutes les organisations ou personnes qui promettent d’aider un groupe de personnes à tenir leur promesse. La Fondation Tandana a toutefois acquis la réputation de pouvoir faire confiance à l’organisation après avoir mené à bien et suivi les projets auxquels elle collabore. Sara Tembine décrit ci-après comment elle ainsi que d’autres femmes de son village ont été trompées par quelqu’un, et comment sa connaissance du travail de Tandana l’a amenée à plaider en faveur du partenariat de son village avec Tandana sur plusieurs projets.

Je m’appelle Sara Tembine je suis originaire de Kansongo, mais je suis mariée à Kilègou. Je suis membre d’un groupe EPC à Kilègou et secrétaire pour être réplicatrice de mon groupe l’Epargne pour le Changement (EPC).

Il y a un maire secondaire chez nous à Kilegou du nom de Dramane qui avait amené un projet chez nous au nom des femmes. Je suis désolée d’avoir oublié le nom de ce projet. On nous a formé 6 jours pour l’entretien du projet. Ils nous ont dit qu’ils vont prendre l’argent à la banque pour nous donner. On était 9 groupements dans le village de Kilègou. Ils nous ont dit pour le démarrage du projet chaque groupe doit cotiser 10 000F CFA pour le retrait de la somme à la banque et que chaque groupement peut proposer la somme qu’il veut. L’intérêt dépend de la somme proposée. Petit à petit, dans 5 ans ils vont retirer les sommes et reste à nous, et avec cet intérêt on peut travailler sans prêter l’argent a quelqu’un. Chaque groupe à donner la somme demandée, et proposée une somme pour le retrait d’argent a la banque. Ils nous ont dit dans 2 semaines ils allaient revenir avec la somme. Durant 3 mois l’agent de ce projet n’ai pas revenu. Et un jour après les 3 mois, il est venu au village. Il a appelé les 9 groupes et nous a remis 2 téléphones Nokia simple non neuf pour les 9 groupes, en nous demandant de payer nous même une puce orange inscrit à orange money, est avec ça on fait le retrait et le dépôt d’argent a la banque. On a fait ce qu’il nous a demandé en lui donnant les numéros de deux puces inscrit à orange money. Mais jusqu’à aujourd’hui l’agent du projet n’est pas revenu à Kilègou et c’est la fin du projet comme ça. On a compris que nous avions été trompés.

C’est après ce cas que l’agent de la Fondation Tandana Moussa Timbiné est venu accompagné du chargé et superviseur pour expliquer le programme EPC aux autorités villageoises et aux femmes leaders de Kilègou. Quand l’information est arrivée aux femmes du village, toutes les femmes avaient refusé en disant que c’est comme ça qu’on nous trompe.

Ce jour j’étais présente à la rencontre et je leurs ai dit que non, je connais les travaux de la Fondation Tandana qui a commencé dans mon village. Ça vaut des années que la Fondation Tandana travaille à Wadouba et personne n’a entendu que la Fondation Tandana a trompé quelqu’un, a plus forte raison un village. Quand je rends visite aux parents à Kansongo, je constate que les agents de la Fondation Tandana font les suivis régulièrement des toutes les activités et au partage de fond de groupe EPC chacun reçoit comme tu as épargné au partage. Apres, ils vont former les femmes en alpha en langue Tommo So.

C’est après mes témoignages comme ça que les femmes ont accepté le programme. Aujourd’hui l’agent EPC Moussa a pu créer beaucoup de groupes à Kilegou et la population est très contente de l’approche de la Fondation. Vive la Fondation Tandana.

A trusted partner in Mali

In the following, Sara Tembine describes how she and other women in her village were deceived, and how her knowledge of Tandana’s work led her to argue in favor of her village partnering with Tandana on several projects.

My name is Sara Tembine. I am from Kansongo, but I am married and live in Kilègou. I am a member of a Savings For Change  (SFC) group in Kilègou and secretary and replicator of my SFC group.

There is a secondary mayor of our home in Kilegou named Dramane, who brought us a project to benefit women. I’m sorry, I forgot the name of this project. We were trained for six days on how to carry out the project. The agent told us that he would take money out of the bank and give it to us. We   had nine groups in the village of Kilègou. He told us that to start the project, each group needed to contribute 10,000 CFA francs for the withdrawal of the sum from the bank, and that each group could propose the amount they wanted to be withdrawn. The interest would depend on the sum proposed. Little by little, in five years they would withdraw the sums and give the remainder to us, and with this interest we could work without borrowing money from anyone else. Each group gave the requested sum and proposed an amount for withdrawal from the bank. He said that in two weeks he would come back with the amount we had requested. For three months, he did not return. Then, one day, after three months, he came back to the village. He called the nine groups together and he gave us two used Nokia basic telephones, not even nine for the nine groups, and he told us to buy sim cards that are connected to Orange Money (a cellular money transfer service) ourselves, and with that we could withdraw and deposit money from the bank. We did what he asked and gave him the numbers of our Orange Money sim cards. But until today the agent has never returned to Kilègou, and the project ended without anything happening. We understood that we had been deceived.

It was after this that Moussa Timbiné, the SFC Coordinator of the Tandana Foundation, along with the program manager and supervisor, came to explain the SFC program to the village authorities and the women leaders of Kilegou. When the women of the village heard about it, they refused, saying, that is how people deceive us.

That day I was present at the meeting, and I told them, “No, I know the work of The Tandana Foundation, which started in my village. It’s been many years that The Tandana Foundation has been working in Wadouba Township, and no one has ever heard of Tandana deceiving anyone, much less a whole village. When I visit my relatives in Kansongo, I notice that Tandana staff regularly follows up on all the activities and that when the SFC groups do their fund sharing, everyone receives what they deserve according to their savings. After starting the SFC groups, they will teach the women literacy in the Tommo So language.

It was after my testimony that the women accepted the program. Today, Moussa, the SFC coordinator, has been able to create many groups in Kilegou, and the people are very happy with the approach of the foundation. Long live the Tandana Foundation.

Un socio de confianza en Mali

Ni toda organización ni cada individuo que promete ayudar un grupo de personas cumple con esa promesa. No obstante, al continuamente realizar sus proyectos en el municipio de Wadouba, Mali, la Fundación Tandana se ha ganado la reputación de una organización de confianza. A continuación, Sara Tembine describe los engaños de un individuo al pueblo, además del hecho de que su conocimiento de los labores de Tandana le convenció proponer una colaboración entre su pueblo y Tandana para la realización de varios proyectos.

Me llamo Sara Tembine. Soy de Kansongo. Estoy casada y ahora vivo en Kilègou. Soy miembro de un grupo Savings For Change  [ahorros para el cambio] (SFC, por sus siglas en inglés) en Kilègou, y soy secretaria y reproductora de mi grupo SFC.

Nuestro pueblo de Kilègou tiene un alcalde secundario que se llama Dramane y que nos brindó un proyecto para beneficiarle a la mujer. Perdóneme, se me olvidó el nombre del proyecto.  Recibimos capacitación en el ejercicio del proyecto durante seis días. El agente nos dijo que nos sacaría el dinero del banco y nos lo daría. Éramos nueve grupos en el pueblo de Kilègou. Nos dijo que para poner el proyecto en marcha, sería necesario que cada grupo contribuyera 10.000 francos CFA a la retirada de fondos del banco y que se permitía que cada grupo propusiera la cantidad de dinero que quería que se retirara. El interés ganado dependería de la cantidad propuesta. Poco a poco y durante un período de cinco años, andarían retirando las cantidades indicadas y nos regalarían lo que restaba, con cual interés podríamos trabajar sin pedir préstamo de cualquier otra organización. Cada grupo donó la cantidad que pidió y propuso una cantidad de dinero para que la retirara del banco. Nos dijo que volvería dentro de dos semanas con la cantidad que habíamos pedido. Pasaron tres meses antes de que volvió. Pasados tres meses, regresó al pueblo. Reunió los nueve grupos y nos dio dos móviles Nokia básicos y de segunda mano – ni nos regaló nueve móviles, ya que fuéramos nueve grupos – y nos dijo que compráramos nosotros mismos las tarjetas sim con vincula a Orange Money (un transmisor de dinero móvil) y que podríamos retirar y depositar fondos. Hicimos todo lo que nos pidió y le dimos el número que correspondía a nuestra tarjeta sim Orange Money. No obstante, hasta el día de hoy el agente nunca regresó a Kilègou y el proyecto se nos terminó sin dar ningún fruto. Ya sabíamos que nos había engañado.

Fue después de esto que Moussa Timbiné, el coordinador SFC de la Fundación Tandana, junto con el gerente y el supervisor del programa, vino a Kilègou para explicarnos a las autoridades y a las señoras líderes del pueblo el programa SFC. Cuando oyeron hablar de esto, las líderes no quisieron, diciendo que es así que nos engañan.

Aquel día yo estaba allí presente en la reunión y les dije que no, que conozco el trabajo de la Fundación Tandana, cuyas raíces son de mi pueblo. Hace muchos años que la Fundación Tandana trabaja en el municipio de Wadouba y nunca hemos escuchado de que la Tandana le engañe a nadie, mucho menos a un pueblo entero. Cuando visito mi familia en Kansongo, veo que el personal de Tandana monitorea las actividades con regularidad y que cuando los grupos SFC reparten fondos, cada quien recibe de acuerdo con sus ahorros. Más adelante, van a enseñarles a las mujeres a leer y a escribir en el idioma Tommo So.

Después de que di esta declaración, las señoras permitieron que se realizara el programa. Hoy en día, Moussa, el coordinador SFC, ha podido formar varios grupos en Kilègou y la gente está muy contenta con las estrategias de la fundación. Viva la Fundación Tandana.
